Many rainbow families are put in legal limbo when crossing EU borders – even they should have the same “free movement” rights like other (different-sex) families. NELFA’s individual member, Professor Alina Tryfonidou, just published a research report. It is entitled “The cross-border recognition of rainbow families under EU law” and reveals that Member States have already the obligation to recognise families that were established in another EU country. Tryfonidou gives advice how this issue could be treated by the EU Commission. The first copy of the report was published during a meeting with the European Parliament’s Intergroup on LGBTI Rights and Commissioner Helena Dalli on 4th of February 2020.
